Reviews

"Boti Nagy, one of Australia's most decorated basketball writers...has produced one of his finest efforts in a superb new biography, 'Mahervellous!'...Maher has been admired by basketball fans throughout Australia, but this magnificent book also reaches into the personal life of one of SA's outstanding sportspeople...It is a must read for all sports fans, not just those who follow basketball."
- The Independent Weekly

"Brett Maher is one of the class acts of Australian basketball.. - an incredibly detailed biography about a bloke who often played second fiddle (arguably too often) in the national side, but an undoubted Adelaide hero..."
- Inside Sport

"Brett Maher is a rarity in sport - a champion as popular as he is talented. Among Adelaide basketball fans, he is revered, for good reason...Boti Nagy has captured the decency and dignity of Maher...in a book that is much more than a regular biography. It's not just about the 36ers skipper - rather, he is the central character in an intriguing warts-and-all examination of the club and league he has graced...Amid plenty of laughs there are tears too...If you liked Brett Maher before, you'll love him by the book's end."
- The Advertiser - Review Section

"Simply Mahervellous! Books about basketball in Australia and the NBL are a rare commodity and this biography of one of the league’s all-time greats doubles as a pocket history of the sport during Maher’s 18 seasons, three championships and two Larry Sengstock Medal successes...it is a “must-read” for basketball fans and sports lovers generally. But more than just a basketball junkie’s paradise, there is the personal side of Brett’s story as he candidly discusses his family’s devastation in 2003 with the loss of his baby son Hudson to a rare bone marrow disease (HLH). "A great read that gives you an iside into not only the life of Brett Maher but the history of the Adelaide 36ers and a lot of the NBL as well. The book covers off a lot of the locker room stories that are usually never heard outside those walls. Very light and entertaining book"
